What age group should my child be playing in?
For organised grassroots youth football, age groups correlate with school years, and the name of the age groups is the age of the child the start of that school year. For example, Under 10 teams have children who are age 9 on the 31st August, so starting Year 5 at school.
Children are allowed to play up one age group only, and not down an age group (unless exceptional circumstances).
Below are the right age group for your child to look for a team to play in:
- Year 2 - Under 7
- Year 3 - Under 8
- Year 4 - Under 9
- Year 5 - Under 10
- Year 6 - Under 11
- Year 7 - Under 12
- Year 8 - Under 13
- Year 9 - Under 14
- Year 10 - Under 15
- Year 11 - Under 16
- 6th Form - Under 18
